I am afraid about tomorrow and what is going to come. What I see, daily, listen to and live makes me wonder about the willingness of the leaders of this country to achieve reform.?They are like those selfish?war generals who are killing their soldiers instead of taking care of them.?As far as our educational system is concerned, this is what happens. Teachers are starting to fight back and the result will be hazardous for the whole nation. Mr. El Ouafa, Minister of Education, is doing us more harm than good.
Let?s be frank, when the teachers are not respected, are not involved, listened to and when they are not considered as vital elements of change, the change we want will never take place. Today, and this is the truth, the majority of teachers are hopeless, disappointed, discouraged, frustrated, and indifferent. They feel that they are put in the wrong place and they have lost faith in any change or reform. What is worse is that some of them told me, frankly,??that ?when the state does not want to reform, let?s help them destroy.? A teacher went on explaining that ?we have to destroy the whole?educational system, get rid of it if we want to change.?
This philosophy of destruction is now a general standpoint in which a number of teachers?believe. They consider it another path to change. The values of school do not go hand in hand with the values of the street and the community. The learner?s needs are not satisfied at schools, and the teachers? sense of being and belonging is being lost year after year. The more we wait for change, the more things get worse. This is a serious matter that all those who are responsible should understand.
Normally, teachers work to achieve national competencies and produce the type of citizen that society needs. Yet our schools are producing citizens we do not?want to have. Let me be clear and say it openly and courageously: our schools, in many regions and places are producing enemies of the nation instead of producing good citizens who love their country and are ready to defend its historical, geographical, and cultural identity.
This country has brought us up, taught us, and fed our mental and physical stomachs. This country is our past and our present. We want it to be our future, too. This country has always been united and we want to leave it to the coming future generations united, peaceful, and secure. We do not want to educate and bring up those who will kill us. We do not want to lose those who will defend us, as?we do not want to see our country drowned in blood.
This is a message for everyone to think about the future of our?beloved country and to stop this process of self-destruction and national suicide. Morocco has enough room for all his linguistic and racial components. Morocco has enough wealth and opportunities for everyone to work and contribute to achieving national growth and renaissance. Let?s be intelligent and careful: ?destroying is like war: easy to begin but hard to stop.?
